H2 Green Steel starts preparing Boden site for construction
After receiving the permissibility for its 5 million tonne steel plant in northern Sweden on July 1, the company moves into the construction phase of its journey towards producing green steel.
The construction of the hydrogen, iron and steel facilities, on the close to 270 hectares large area is a massive undertaking. It is split into different phases, starting with the necessary preparatory work.
Mid-July the groundworks in Boden were initiated. This includes building roads on the site, erecting fences, taking noise protection measures, and preparing for both on-site offices and a lookout tower from where people who are interested will eventually be able to follow the progress over time.
No steel mills have been built in Europe since the 70s so the endeavour is quite historic. On top of that, the company has set a tough timeline, as well as high standards when it comes to the environmental and social dimensions both in the construction phase and once operations are up and running.
