Stegra implements changes to the management team, Belén de Ugarte appointed Chief Project Officer
As a part of a reorganization, Stegra makes changes to the management team as of April 2025. The changes include a new appointment, and some team members are taking on new roles.
The changes are being made to meet a new phase on the company’s journey, with strengthened focus on execution and operational readiness in Boden, which will benefit from a simplified organizational structure and a smaller top management team structure. This means that some roles are moved out of the management team. Connected to that, some persons take on new roles and some individuals have also chosen to leave the company.
Belén de Ugarte is appointed Chief Project Officer. Belén joins Stegra from EDF, where she most recently served as Director New Nuclear. She brings 30 years of experience from civil engineering and project management and will lead the project delivery in this important phase towards start and ramp-up of continuous production.
Luisa Orre, previously Chief Procurement Officer, is appointed Chief Business Development Officer. Luisa will head the business development team and oversee activities relating to Stegra’s long-terms growth ambitions. Luisa has a background in startups and management consulting. The previous procurement function has been integrated into the project and operations teams.
At the same time, Niklas Wass joins Stegra and the management team as head of Boden operations as previously announced. He joins from Outokumpu, where he was most recently President, Business Line Stainless Europe.
This is an organizational structure and management team tailored for the next phase of Stegra’s journey. It will take us from project delivery through to operational readiness, never losing sight of why we have taken on this task to accelerate the decarbonization in one of the world’s dirties industries.

Other members of the management team are Sofia Gellar, Chief HR Officer; Otto Gernandt, Chief Financial Officer; Markus Mannström, Chief Transition Officer and Henrik Henriksson, CEO.
In a scale-up like Stegra, change is a constant. No other team could have brought us to where we are today with such competence, determination and purpose-driven engagement. The contributions from the people who are now leaving will forever be a part of the Stegra chronicles.

The team members who are leaving the company are Maria Persson Gulda, Chief Technology Officer, Lina Håkansdotter, Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer and Tomas Gille, Chief Project Officer. Maria was part of the small team that founded and spearheaded this project from its conception and has been critical in building the competence for the design of the plant and securing key supplier contracts. Lina has contributed greatly to driving an ambitions climate agenda for the steel industry both in Sweden and on and EU level. Tomas has steered the project throughout the intensive fundraising and contracting structure, created a global supply chain, and built a team of project professionals from different industries. Both Maria and Lina will continue to support the Stegra team during a transition period.
