Helen Eldstål web

With a long career in the steel industry, Helen has joined us as a Shift manager at the steel mill. She was born and raised in Boden and brings deep industry experience to the role. And as if that weren’t enough, her last name seems tailor-made for the industry  – Eldstål literally translates to “fire steel.”

What’s your background?

I began my career in the steel industry in 2007, working in continuous casting. Since then, I’ve held roles across several different areas, including cooling, ladle handling, and later the LD converter. I also served as an acting manager for two and a half years before moving on. Altogether, I bring 18 years of experience from the industry.

Describe your role as a Shift manager at Stegra

I will be responsible for production during my shift, including leading the team, resolving operational issues, and monitoring the process.

Why did you join Stegra?

What drew me to Stegra was that it’s the steel industry and right here in my hometown. Being part of the green transition and helping build something completely new from the ground up really appealed to me. Joining at such an early stage feels especially exciting. It means getting to be part of the entire journey from day one, gaining a deeper understanding of the process, and having the chance to contribute and make a real impact along the way.

What’s the best part about your job?

The best part of my job is my amazing colleagues from all over the world. I’m really looking forward to the day we start production and get to show what we’re capable of  – that we can make steel!
